Jericoacoara(affectionately called "Jeri") is a village of fishermen, situated 300 km from Fortaleza - the state capital. Jeri is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Since 1984 Jericoacoara turned into an APA -Ambiental Preservation Area- and in 2002 was declared National Park of Jericoacoara, thus preserved under control and ecological landscape of IBAMA / SEMACE.
Jericoacoara is not just unique and charming for its beautiful sand dunes, beaches and lagoons, but also for his quiet and different village.Jericoacoara was a former village of fishermen and even today retains the streets of earth and white sand, the ancient architecture and especially the peace of a city that is behind of enormous dunes. Jericoacoara (The name derives from the Tupi-guarani: yuruco (h ole) and cuara (turtle), Hole of the turtles), which would be a reference to a beach in which the spawning of sea turtles happens from time to time.
Besides all this,Jericoacoara or Jeri, as it is called by the residents,offers several options for the practice of sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, trekking, horse riding,capoeira,...
In Jeri there are 4 main streets, all parallel, 3 of which expire at sea and other small dishes, all strictly of sand.
